I disagree that you could draw that conclusion.If the tax returns itself would show evasion or crimes, then the IRS would've caught those. You would need other records to compare. E.g. his loan applications where he lied the other way about his income (inflating vs. minimizing).To me, the most alarming tidbit in the @nytimes' story isn't the $750 bill or the dubious refund; it's that a President running for re-election would be on the hook for upwards of $421 million in loans during his second term. It's not hard to imagine the incentives that'd create. Can you get security clearance with that level of debt? That's one of the factors they look into in the UK for high level clearance, i've got a friend who had a ~100k debt as a contractor who didn't get their clearance because they were deemed to be much more likely to take a payout.
